Why Business Leaders Fail to Get Results: 3 Common Health Myths Busted

My top 3 health and fitness tips (myths) that stop business leaders from achieving the transformational results they want. Health and fitness information is everywhere. You know this more than anyone. 👉 It's in your newspaper 👉 It's in your emails 👉 It's on the TV 👉 It's here on LinkedIn 😕 But what should you listen to? What actually works? The answer. It depends. What works for a 21-year-old fitness freak won't work for a mum homeschooling her three children. If you're a business owner or C-suite executive, then here are 3 of the least effective bits of advice you will ever read, or attempt. 1. Eat less, move more. "I'm stuck at a desk most of my day, on Zoom calls and then face-to-face meetings. I leave my house at 5:30 a.m. and don't get home until 8 p.m. each night. Twice a week, it's later than that as I'm out for dinner and drinks with clients. On the weekends, I take my kids to rugby, and I want to go out and eat a roast dinner with my family. Eat less, move more is as effective as trying to stop an articulated lorry, speeding down the motorway by standing in front of it. Hopeless. 2. Get your 5 a day. "I struggle to eat 5 bits of fruit and vegetables, also I've tried it and it had zero impact on my weight, energy and strength." Of all the issues going on with an out-of-shape business leader, five a day is toward the bottom of the list. It makes a lot more sense to focus on increasing protein, reducing portion sizes, and reducing alcohol consumption. 3. Hit 10,000 steps a day "Again, I'm strapped to a desk most of the day, and I've tried to get 10k steps in, but it's impossible. Also, I've tried to get walks in, but I struggle to stay consistent with it. When I do hit 10k steps, it has zero impact on my weight anyway" 10,000 steps per day is a real struggle for busy business leaders when they're stuck in an office. A much better target is 7,000 steps, but again, it's only a small part of the puzzle. These tips can be helpful, as they give a place to start and build from. However, using them as a complete solution is going to waste months of your time and leave you disappointed. A complete overview of your health and a holistic approach trumps hacks and generic tips every time.
